Light up your home with something truly unique. In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn traditional basketry techniques to weave a beautiful, functional, and contemporary willow lampshade - a piece that brings natural texture and warm character into any room.
Working with the finest English willows in a range of natural tones, I’ll guide you step by step through the entire process. From selecting and preparing materials to shaping and finishing your design. You’ll gain the skills and confidence to weave your own piece, and a deeper understanding of the craft behind it. Each lampshade is as individual as its maker, no two are ever quite the same. And while the form is modern, the process is steeped in tradition, offering a tactile, grounding experience rooted in heritage.
This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some weaving experience. Come along on your own and meet other crafty folk or bring a friend for a creative day out. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a stunning handmade lampshade and the knowledge to keep experimenting at home.
A contemporary way to bring traditional craft into your home, the woven lampshade speaks of nature, heritage and the quiet joy of making.
Plus, the on-site Willows Tea & Coffee Shop is open during the workshop, serving ethical, Rainforest Alliance coffee and tea, award-winning cakes, and simple savouries, the perfect way to relax between weaving sessions.
