Join experienced willow sculptor Joe Gregory for a one-day creative workshop and learn to weave your very own willow badger sculpture. Beloved for their powerful stance, distinctive markings and quietly determined nature, badgers make wonderfully expressive subjects for sculpture. From the gentle curve of the spine to the solid, grounded posture and iconic striped head, this course gives you the chance to capture the spirit of one of Britain’s most characterful woodland creatures.
Joe will guide you step by step as you build form, strength and personality into your piece. Recently brought back due to popular demand, this workshop reintroduces one of Joe’s classic animal sculpture days. With expert tuition, inspiring examples around the studio and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a course that encourages creativity, whatever your background or experience.
Working with the finest English willow, you’ll explore the fundamentals of free-form animal sculpture. You'll learn how to shape strong frameworks, layer natural materials to suggest muscle and movement and use subtle shifts of angle and density to bring that unmistakable badger presence to life. Your finished sculpture will be a striking addition to the home or garden, full of character and charm. With a simple wood preservative treatment, these sculptures can weather beautifully outdoors for many years.
