A beautiful, functional oval basket designed especially for gardening, harvesting, and foraging—now available as a two-day workshop.
Having crafted this elegant basket for commissions over the years, Joe has finally created a workshop to share this versatile design with others. Its shallow, elongated shape offers plenty of space to gather flowers, fresh produce, or tools as you wander through your garden, allotment, or out in nature.
Gathering baskets have been an essential part of cultures worldwide, each with unique traditions reflecting a deep connection to the land. These baskets are not just practical tools—they are a reflection of history, heritage, and daily life. In this course, you’ll learn traditional English basketry techniques to create a basket that blends timeless craftsmanship with practical beauty.
You’ll be guided through beginner-friendly skills including weaving an oval base, exploring various weaving patterns, and making sturdy, well-balanced handles. Whether you’re new to basketry or looking to build on existing skills, this course will help you create a useful and attractive basket with confidence.
If you enjoy this workshop, you might also like our Oval Shopper Basket or Classic Round English Shopper Basket courses—both offering distinct shapes and techniques to learn further.
