Foxes are wonderfully dynamic subjects to sculpt. They're sleek, alert, full of movement and mischief. From the elegant curve of the tail to the keen tilt of the head and the fluid lines of the body, this workshop invites you to capture the quiet intelligence and lively spirit of one of Britain’s most iconic woodland animals. Over two days, Joe will guide you step by step as you build a sculpture rich in personality, presence and natural grace.
This extended workshop offers the chance to slow down, immerse yourself in the craft, and work with a level of detail that a one-day course simply can’t accommodate. With expert tuition, inspiring examples around the studio and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a creative experience suited to both enthusiastic beginners and returning makers looking for a deeper project.
Working with the finest English willow, you’ll explore the fundamentals of free-form animal sculpture at a more generous pace. You’ll learn how to construct strong, balanced frameworks, layer natural materials to suggest muscle and movement, and use subtle variations in angle, density and texture to bring that unmistakable fox character to life from poised and watchful to playful and curious.
Your finished fox will be a striking feature for the home or garden, full of charm and individuality. With a simple wood preservative treatment, these sculptures can weather beautifully outdoors for many years to come.
